Mass Save Part I: What to Expect
How your home uses and distributes energy can have a substantial effect on what your bills look like. What if you knew you were not only paying too much, but that there was a low cost way to ensure a future of savings?
Mass Save, an initiative sponsored through various Massachusetts gas and electric utility and energy efficiency service providers, seeks to provide a wide range of services, incentives, trainings, and information to help businesses and homeowners manage energy use and related costs.
To start, a representative will come to your home and perform a free home energy assessment. They will audit how you use energy and where improvements can be made in order to increase efficiency and lower costs. Many of the suggested changes can also qualify you for rebates and discounts.
There are four areas where the Mass Save upgrade program focuses:
- Heating systems
- Domestic hot water and solar hot water heaters
- Insulation upgrades and replacement windows
- Central air conditioning and ductless mini-split heat pumps
Each holds significant rebates for individual adjustments, making it possible to not spend anything at all on certain upgrades! There are certain requirements to be aware of, however, in order to make sure everything runs smoothly during your upgrade. These can be discussed when consulting with a Mass Save representative about your specific property.
Mass Save also offers instant coupons and mail-in rebates on Energy Star light bulbs, lighting fixtures, freezers, refrigerators, room air conditioners, advanced power strips, pool pumps, and room air cleaners. In addition, energy-saving heating systems, water heaters, central air conditioning, and insulation may also qualify for rebates.
Mass Save may also be able to help if you’re looking to build a house or addition to your current residence. Energy efficient homes offer more value and are easier to sell in today’s market. There are incentives, tax credits, technical assistance, and trainings available to improve the energy performance of new and renovated single and multi-family homes.
