Mass Save Part III: Financing Opportunities

Dollar Bills

After reading our Mass Save Series Parts I and II as well the informational infographic, it is clear that taking advantage of the offerings by the Mass Save program is a good choice. Not only will your home become more energy efficient, but you’ll end up saving money on your bills because of the changes made.

Despite the fact the work done through Mass Save is significantly discounted, there will still be some charges for most improvements. If you’re interested in having the work done but cannot afford to pay in full right now, you might consider the Mass Save Residential HEAT Loan program.

The aforementioned program allows customers to be eligible to apply for 0% interest loans up to $25,000 with terms up to seven years to aid in the payment for installment costs for qualified energy efficient improvements in homes or rental properties. Eligible improvements may include:

  • Attic, Wall, and Basement Insulation

  • High Efficiency Heating Systems

  • Central Air Conditioning/ Air Source Heat Pumps

  • Ductless Mini Split Heat Pumps

  • High Efficiency Domestic Hot Water Systems

  • Solar Hot Water Systems

  • 7-Day Digital & Wi Fi Thermostats

  • ENERGY STAR® Qualified Replacement Windows

Of course, the terms of your loan will depend on the utility in question and your loan provider. Mass Save’s website has compiled a list of participating Bank and Credit Unions for consumer convenience, which can be found here

Keep in mind that each department under Mass Save carries its own requirements and restrictions, all of which are outlined in the specific standards provided on the Mass Save website.

In addition to the financing program, Mass Save offers several incentives and rebates for homeowners so they can cut costs even further. All are outlined with specific guidelines to see if they not only fit what you’re looking for, but if you qualify. An up to date list of what is currently being offered can be found on the Mass Save website here
